The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.

Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

  • WISH I BOUGHT A CHEVY - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee looks nice, but there are problems with the design of the 2005. I bought mine in June 2005; in October I took it in for service because the air conditioner didnt work. The told me its not covered under warranty because something from the road hit it and put a hole in it. Now I thought this was an off road SUV. There is a gap under the bumper thats at least 1 foot by 2 foot with no protection at all. The customer care center didnt seem to care that the car was 3 months old and only had 3500 miles on it. Sorry Nature caused your problems. It wasnt nature, it was a bad design and should be covered.

Fun to drive, w/ 5.7 L Hemi. Not a good family SUV, too small. 11-14 MPG over the past 3 years of mixed driving. Would not buy another Jeep in the future.

These cars are lemons. Every complaint here will eventually happen to you. Just replaced starter, now coolant leak, AC switches broken. I mean come on this car has 42,000 miles on it. Id stay away from Jeep products, they are clearly not designing or building anything but a heap of junk.

This Jeep is better then all before. I owned a 97 and hated it. I drive mainly highway and snowy conditions so Quad-1 is fine for me. Room galore for my 6-5" frame and big family. Cargo area is great, flip tray and hidden areas help, vents are great, standard speakers are fine for normal use. Jeep put exactly what they needed in this baby. If you are looking at Highlanders and Pilots, check this out. Looks and road feel plus the Quad system and suspension work like it should for most SUV owners who actually never leave the road!

Sorry to say I wouldnt buy again, imput shaft broke off transmission at 36K. cover by warranty. Had to replace electronic shifter module 4 times which they covered under 7\70000 now it needs a 5th. one and they wont cover it for some reason and it only has 61k and will cost almost $1000.00 and this is a safety problem try pulling into traffic and your jeep stops. p0700 code replaced water pump at 56K. Mopar just lost a 40 year fan because of this. To bad because believe or not I really liked my jeep. If you want to spend $1000.00 ever 12k-14k for a shifter module go ahead and buy one.

  • do your research, do not buy - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We bought this Jeep for my wife to drive to work, works awesome in snow and ice love the all wheel drive, I love the looks of it, also love the sound of the throaty v8 engine, would sound better with dual exhaust, the bad is we have only owned it for three months and have had to put $500 worth of parts into it, I am a mechanic so I take care of my vehicles, the front speakers suck they rattle already and need replaced, there is a light blown out for the heater controls so cant see what the setting is at night, already had to replace the starter @ $300 and a wheel bearing on the front @ $230, that is just for parts, pretty pathetic at only 37,000 miles, wonder what else is going to go out?

  • Buyers Remorse - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep owner for 30 years. Last Jeep was a 02 Grand Cherokee. Bought the 05 Hemi but failed to review the specs. 05 is longer and wider but there is less interior room due to the bulky plastic used through-out. Dash takes too much space; at 61" no leg room in the back nor in the front when driving with an adult in the back. On the passenger side, the bulky glove box placement is awful and knees are pressed against it when my 5- yr old sits in back. Lacks head room, headrests angled too forward which forces you to recline the seat further back. No way 4 adults fit in this Grand Cherokee. The 02 had more comfort space. After 13,000 miles, the transmission has a shudder, front differential solenoid failed, waiting for parts.

  • Transmission Issues - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Since I have bought the Jeep the check engine light kept coming on, took it to a Jeep dealership and replaced Transmission Control Module. Still having same issues and I took it back to dealership and now it is the shifter module. It doesnt want to switch gears and when I put it in drive or reverse it doesnt want to go. Does anyone know anything about this or has had some of the same issues?

  • What a Disappointment - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This car is a major disappointment. I got the 3.7L thinking to save some on gas. It not only gets an average of 14.7 (average of 30 fill-ups); mpg it is also sluggish to respond when you put your foot down. I have been told by dealer that everything tests well according to their diagnostic. That was after the recall notice on the transmission. This is my third and last Jeep. The power band shifting is horrible and laggy. The vehicle will take almost a full second to respond when you put your foot down on the gas, and does not shift correctly (probably why the gas mileage and response is so bad). After six months of ownership I will be trading it in for a Murano. What a disappointment.

  • Run Away from this vehicle - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is perhaps the worst vehicle Ive ever owned. The materials used in the interior of the car are almost laughable. The Hemi does not give any more performance than my older BMW X5 with a 3.0, excluding towing. I currently get 13.5 mpg. Ive had it in for repair 4 times for various fault codes. Traction control cuts power for a long period of time even when slowly crossing railroad tracks. I honestly cant think of anything good to say about the car. Im just glad its a company vehicle and it will get turned in shortly. Stay away from this vehicle at all costs. I wanted to buy American--but I should have bought an import made in America. Look at the Nissan Armada, BMW X5 as alternates.
